ALPASIÓN MALBEC 2012 wins Gold medal in the world’s largest wine competition

Decanter gold award

Alpasión has been awarded a Gold medal (95 points) in the 2014 Decanter World Wine Awards for our Alpasión Malbec 2012.

Toine Knipping, one of the owners of Alpasión says: “Alpasión was the outcome of a dream of a class of INSEAD students and wine drinkers to create the best possible wine, without any of us being wine experts.

We decided to each get our friends involved, hire a good agronomist and wine maker and  consistently apply the best practices in absolutely everything we do, while having great fun developing a unique and very personal wine project and brand, that is open for like minded people to join.”

Guillermo Cacciaguerra, Agronomist and General Manager of Alpasión wines describes the Alpasión Malbec as “an intense wine of high concentration, red fruit notes, round tannins, and a soft palate with a clear influence of oak. This wine is an expression of the soil chosen for this project”.

“We want to make innovative, honest wines that are an expression of the soil and the area where they come from” says Maria Gabriela Soto, CEO and also one of the owners of Alpasión.

The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) is the world’s largest and most influential wine competition.

2014 saw another record-breaking year of entries, with over 15,000 wines entered into the competition  from 46 countries. 570 labels were from Argentina, and of those only 49 were awarded Gold medals.
The DWWA has gained international admiration from wine lovers around the world for providing a comprehensive and authoritative source of wine recommendations for everyone, from beginners to the most experienced enthusiasts.

A panel of over 200 world-class judging experts, including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, wine writers, buyers and important members of the wine trade carefully taste their way through each of the wine entries. Each entry is tasted blind, individually discussed by the panel, and judges award the top wines with a Decanter medal.
Steven Spurrier, Chairman of the Decanter World Wine Awards, says: “Our role in this competition is to recognise and award wines.

Awarding a wine with a Decanter sticker tells consumers around the world that these wines have passed the ultimate test from our judges.”
